100 Mile March - Week 3

So after a great week last week, this week totally sucked!  The boys all got the stomach bug so I was pretty much stuck at home all week.  I was also (understandably) exhausted from dealing with the sick boys.  This really limited my work out time.

We also were signed up for a race this past Sunday.  We signed up for a 2 race series that was this past week & again in 2 weeks.  It's a 5K loop that you can do 1, 2, or 3 times (5K, 10K, 15K).  We had a sitter lined up so we both could do it but she had to cancel at the last minute so only Adrian went.  I didn't really feel like racing, especially after a late night the night before.  We will try again with our sitter for the next race and if she can't, I'll be the one to do that one.  Adrian did great at the race, he did the 5K in 30:38, faster than he was expecting.

This week is going to be interesting between spring break for the boys, my birthday & Easter activities.  But I am determined to make it to 100 miles.  I need to average around 4 each day since I missed a few days last week.  Check back next week for an update!

Here are my workouts from last week:
Monday - 3.3 miles walking
Tuesday - 60 minute Zumba class, 3.3 miles walking
Wednesday - rest day
Thursday - 20 minute Kick Boxing class (Zak was not happy in child care), 4 miles walking
Friday -  2 miles walking
Saturday - 4.3 miles walking
Sunday - rest day

Total miles this week - 16.9
Total miles this month - 71.6

100 Mile March - Week 2

I had a pretty awesome work out week this past week!  Once I got over the stomach bug that hit last week, I did at least 90 minutes of exercise every day & made up some miles for the 100 mile March.  I am exactly where I need to be mileage wise to finish it up this month.

On Sunday, I did a virtual St. Patrick's Day race for my 4th race of the year.  I actually signed up for 2 virtual races that day, one 5K & one 10K.  I did the 10K & split the time to count for the 5K as well.  My plan was to get up early Sun morning, go walk with my walking club for about 4 miles, then meet up at Blacklick Woods to catch up with my friend Erica.  But the baby had a horrible night of sleep so I decided to skip the alarm & just meet Erica.

I walked the first 2.5 miles with her & it flew by!  We started chatting & walking & before I knew it, we were back to where we parked.  She left to get on with her day & I started out on the other way on the trail.  I did the loop & got back to where I parked again & had just under 6 miles.  So I walked around the parking lot & that got me to just over 6.2.  It took 1 hour & 43 minutes for the 10K.  Not my best pace, but I am very happy with it.  I will be more than ready for the 1/4 in about 6 weeks.

Dressed in the only green I have - Go Jets!!
Here is a recap of the workouts I did this week:
Monday - rest day (still recovering from stomach bug)
Tuesday - 60 minute Zumba class, 2.5 miles walking
Wednesday - 50 minute Zumba class, 5.3 miles walking
Thursday - 60 minute Kick Boxing class, 4.1 miles walking
Friday -  50 minute Zumba class, 4 miles walking
Saturday - 50 minute Zumba class, 3 miles walking
Sunday - 6.2 miles walking (10K virtual race)

Total miles this week - 25.1
Total miles this month - 54.7

Daniel Update

Daniel has had a really great 2 months!  First of all he turned 4 & since he's no longer 3 he has left behind all the sassiness & misbehaving we have been dealing with for the past year.  That's just some humor & hope for all of you who are still dealing with 3 year olds.  :)

Seriously though, Daniel had a great birthday & is really growing & developing.  He had his well check with his pediatrician & he's doing great.  He shot up a lot the past year & is in the 75% for height for the first time since birth!  He continues to be perfectly average in weight in the 50%.  I don't remember the exact numbers, but he's about 41 inches & I think 35 lbs.

I also had his parent teacher conference.  His teacher is super pleased with how well he is doing in school.  He already knows all his letters & numbers, even ones that they haven't taught yet.  He also does amazing when coloring, he stays in the lines way better than a 3 year old should.  Her only concern is that he doesn't talk to & play with the other kids (sound familiar??)  They are going to work on that during the last few weeks of school.  I'm not sure I fully agree with her though because since that meeting, Daniel has had a play date with one of the girls from his class & we are setting up 2 others.  I know he is shy & quiet & I think he just prefers to play with the girls because they are calmer than boys his age.  He probably wants a break from all the chaos & testosterone that he deals with everyday...I know I do!

Here are a few pictures of Daniel from the past 2 months:
AJ & Daniel ready for Silly Hat Night at Awana

Officer Daniel!  He loved having a police officer come into his class.  He even shook his hand & took a picture with him.
4 year old!
Daniel is so gentle & tender with cousin Isabelle...melts my heart!
Chocolate mustache & beard after an ice cream snack
Daniel loves his dragon Stomp-eez!  He wears them about once a week.

100 Mile March - Week 1

I'm still toying with what I'll call this weekly post, but for now it will be about the big challenge I have undertaken for March.  My goal is to walk 100 miles this month.  It has already been a huge challenge, but I'm pretty much on course for 100.  Of course today I had to take an unplanned rest day so now I have 3.3 miles to make up, but I have a 10K planned this weekend so hopefully I'll be back to even.

In addition to walking 100 miles, I'm also keeping up with all my classes at the gym, planking daily & doing 100-150 ab reps everyday.  I was doing the "Pushing Your Luck" challenge which was working towards 100 pushups this month, but my shoulder really started hurting when I did the push ups.  Not sure if I'm doing them wrong, or if I hurt my shoulder doing something else & using those muscles aggravates the injury, but something just isn't right.  So I have decided to leave that challenge & just focus on the others for now.

Here is a recap of my exercise & miles for the last week:
Monday - 50 minute Total Body Conditioning class, 50 minutes yoga, 5 miles of walking
Tuesday - 25 minutes spinning class (got called out for a dirty diaper), 2.1 miles of walking
Wednesday - 40 minutes Zumba class, 50 minutes yoga, 3.3 miles of walking
Thursday - 60 minutes Kick Boxing class, 4.2 miles of walking
Friday - 60 minutes Zumba class, 2 miles of walking
Saturday - 6 miles of walking with friends during my retreat
Sunday - rest day due to a stomach virus :(

Totals for 100 Mile March:
This week:  22.6 miles
This month:  29.6 miles

Zachary Update

Zachary is now 13 months!!  I probably say this every month, but I can't believe how quickly time is passing.  He continues to be a really easy & fun kid to be with.

We had his one year appointment with the doctor & he got a great report.  He weighs almost 25 lbs & is in the 90% for both height & weight.  The doctor says he looks great & just continue doing what we are doing.

Zak has mastered walking & has started to figure out how to run.  He loves racing around the kitchen island with AJ & Daniel now.  The three of them race around it all the time & we all crack up while they do it.  Sometimes me or Adrian even jump in to race too.

Zak has also figured out climbing.  This is one milestone that I don't love.  The problem with this is that he can get up but can't always get back down, so this usually ends in tears.  I'm sure he'll figure it out soon though, he does have his 2 big brothers showing him what to do.

The only negative about Zachary's age right now is he seems to be suffering from separation anxiety, especially when I leave.  I know this is just a phase, and I've been thru it many times with the other boys, but it still breaks my heart to hear him crying so hard when I leave.  Crossing my fingers for a short lived phase!

Here are a few pictures of Zak from the past month:
Brotherly love
Zak loves soccer!  He kicks the ball around & then gets upset when class starts & I have to take him off the field.  I guess he'll be enrolled at 2, same as Daniel.

Zak got into the closet & opened a pudding.  I found him covered with it.  :)

AJ Update

So it's been two months since I did an update on any of the kids because February flew by in a flurry of activity, mostly celebrating the kids.  I sat down to do this update of AJ over the weekend, then remembered I had his parent teacher conference on Tuesday so I decided to wait until after that.

I'll start with the conference...AJ is doing really well in kindergarten.  His teacher said she is really impressed with how smart he is, especially in math & that he is such a sweetheart.  She also said that since I came in to volunteer about a month ago, AJ has been more outgoing.  He has started playing with the other kids more often which is great news!  He's also doing a very good job with his friendship group that is run by the guidance counselor.  He has a few areas he has to work on, mainly writing & reading comprehension.  His teacher said a lot of the kids are regressing with writing because they are now focusing on writing full words, not just forming the letters & that this is normal for their age.  It's just something for us to work on with him.  I also got a good report on my first time volunteering, she said she loved seeing how I interacted with the kids.  I'm on the schedule again next week & I can't wait!!

AJ has also really been excelling in soccer & gymnastics.  He is top of the class in gymnastics, of course he is also the oldest, but we won't dwell on that.  In soccer his skills have really developed in the past few months.  He is really good at defense & likes trying to steal the ball away from me & other kids.  He will be starting t-ball this spring & is so excited for that!

AJ has kept us laughing over the past few months too.  He's had some really good one liners:

"We had an ice day today Dad!  I think it was because they had to bring all the ice in for the Disney show this weekend." - when explaining why he didn't go to school last Fri

"Hi Nana!  How are you?  How was your trip?  Was it good?" - when my Mom got back from a night at Carl & Sarah's house

"Oh, did you give her some speed power?" - in response to Adrian saying he was getting me up to speed on something

"Wow Mom, you're awesome!" - in response to me explaining what I did at the gym one morning (yeah, that isn't really funny, I just like that he said it :)

Finally, a few pictures of his month:
Dressed for school one day - he loves this hat!
Superhero AJ - fundraising for kids with cancer

With his glasses from Daniel & Zachary's birthday party
AJ celebrated 100 days in school in February!  He did numerous activities around the number 100 including this color by picture and then add all the pictures.

Enjoying some time with Nana

1/2 Marathon Training - Week 8

So this title is a little misleading, but it's half true so I went with it.  In case you missed my goals post yesterday, I have some news...I am no longer training for the CapCity 1/2 marathon.  I dropped down to the 1/4 marathon (6.55 miles) on Thursday & I couldn't be more excited!!  I don't really have any great reason why I'm not doing the half other than, I just don't want to.  More often than not over the past few weeks I've noticed myself thinking, I wish I was only doing the 1/4, not the 1/2.  I finally decided to pull the trigger.

Now this doesn't mean that I will be stopping my exercising, actually I think this decision will have me exercising more.  I'm going to do all kinds of different fun challenges.  I'm still doing the 13 races in 2013.  I'll still keep going to my gym as much as possible for Zumba, TBC, kick boxing & now spinning.

I will also still keep blogging my workouts so I can keep myself accountable.  I will do updates on Mondays, but they will be related to the challenges I'm doing.

So here's what I did the past week:
Monday - 50 minute Total Body Conditioning class, 40 minute yoga class, 15 minutes on elliptical
Tuesday - 45 minute spinning class, 40 minute Zumba class
Wednesday - 60 minute Zumba class, 25 minute Total Body Conditioning class, 40 minute yoga class
Thursday - 40 minute Zumba class, 60 minute Kick Boxing class
Friday - 60 minute Zumba class, Walked 3.9 miles
Saturday - Walked 3.1 miles (5K), 10 minutes on elliptical
Sunday - rest day

I started the 100 Mile March challenge this past week as well.  I did 7 miles in the first 3 days of March.  93 more to go.

And I continued with my Plank A Day challenge.  I got up to a 1:35 prone plank over the weekend  - my longest ever!  I'm hoping to hit 2:00 by the end of the month.

Feb Update - 2013 Goals

OK, Wow, where did February go?  I guess between it being a short month & the fact that 2 of my 3 boys celebrate their birthdays that month it really flies in our house.  Here is an updated on how I've been doing with my 2013 goals the past month:

Exercise Goals

1.  Do 13 races in 2013 - I finished one race in Feb.  And I have more than 13 scheduled & a few more I'm still looking at.  I'd say I'm on track for this one.
2.  Exercise 5 days/week - In the month of Feb, there were 7 days that I did not exercise.  I had a rough time in the middle of the month with a lot of other things going on & missed a bunch of workouts.  Didn't hit this goal for the month, moving on to the next month.
3.  Train for CapCity 1/2 Marathon in May - So big news here...I have decided not to do the 1/2 marathon after all.  I have been back & forth about if I wanted to do another 1/2 right now, thought that I did, then changed my mind a million times.  I have realized, I don't like walking more than 6ish miles at a time.  So I transferred to the 1/4 & now I'm super excited for CapCity!
4.  Do monthly challenges - I did great with these in Feb!  I completed Anne's Fit February Challenge by adding the elliptical & spinning to my workout routines.  I also did the Plank a Day Challenge & Love my Abs Challenge.  I feel a difference from both of these.  I increased my prone plank time by :30 in Feb, now I can hold it for 1:30.  For March, I'm signed up for 3 big challenges:  The 100 mile March, March Plank a Day, and Pushing our Luck where I am attempting to do 100 consecutive pushups.  It's not too late to join me for any or all of these challenges!!

Weight Loss Goals
1.  Stay under my calorie goal for the day for 13 out of 14 days - Again, I didn't do great with this goal.  I was over my calorie goal 8 of the 28 days.  Again, birthdays, guests, nervous break downs, etc.  No excuses, it is what it is.

2.  Lose 1-2 lbs/week - I only lost 2 lbs this month.  This is to be expected with the bad eating & low exercise for the month.

3.  Get under 200 lbs by my birthday - I'm currently at 227.  This is not going to happen.  The 1/4 marathon may not even happen right now.  But I'll get there one day!

Family/Personal Goals
1.  Declutter this house - In Feb I finished the kitchen, did the laundry room & all of the boys' craft supplies.  I put the decluttering on hold for the last week of the month so I could focus on our taxes, which I got filed today, yay!  This is the earliest I think I have ever filed.
2.  Read at least 12 books this year - I finished 1 book in Feb:  "I've Got Your Number" by Sophia Kinsella.  I really enjoyed it!
3.  Take one picture each day - This has been a super fun challenge so far!  Not like I needed to take more pictures, but it is a really cool way to chronicle the year.  You can check out the pictures on Facebook.  Still going strong with this one, haven't missed a day yet, although some days are harder than others.
5.  More consistent blogging - I did OK with this in Feb.  I totally missed the updates on the boys, just too busy enjoying them.  I did blog every week for Thankful Thurs, every week for marathon training & am updating these goals.

How are your goals for 2013 going??
