1/2 Marathon Training - Week 8

Well, this was pretty much a perfect week for exercise for me.  It was my highest total mileage (23 for the week), my highest miles in one walk (7 on Sat), & I did at least an hour of exercise every day except one.  I'm super proud of the progress I'm making.  Now I have family in town for the next 2 weeks, so it will be a challenge to keep up but I'm ready for it.  Plus we'll be eating so much I have to keep up with the exercise or I'll never make my goal.

I did my second race for the season this weekend, a 5K on Sun morning.  The whole weekend was perfect weather to be outside & exercising.  I struggled a little to get through the race, but I did it.  It was the first time I've walked that far alone & without music (my app failed, need to get the iPod fixed).  I got bored at times, but that is why I made sure I had a group to do the 1/2 with, I knew I couldn't do it alone.  The course was also a lot of hills & I'm sure I was tired from the long walk on Sat & all the cleaning I did on Sat as well.  My official time was 50:40, which is right around what I was aiming for so overall I'm really happy with it.  My next race is the Emerald City 1/4 marathon on Sun 8/26, 6 days before we leave for Disney!

Here's how I did this week:
Mon 7/23 - 3.0 miles on the treadmill
Tues 7/24 - 2.0 miles on the treadmill, Zumba class
Weds 7/25 - 15 minutes on stationary bike, 3.0 miles on the treadmill, Zumba class
Thurs 7/26 - Dance Jam class, 2.0 miles on the treadmill, 2.0 miles around campus after work
Fri 7/27 - rest day
Sat 7/28 - 7.82 miles on Olentangy Trail with MIT
Sun 7/29 - 3.1 miles at Giant Eagle Multisports Fest 5K (50:40)
Me & AJ back home after my race - the boys loved my new medal (so do I!)

1/2 Marathon Training - Week 6 & 7

So I have been really emotional recently about this whole weight loss, marathon training, etc.  I planned to write a blog last week & just couldn't bring myself to sit down & do it.  Numerous things are causing the emotions, and I won't go into them here, other than to say that weight loss is just an emotional journey.  I realized that if I keep going the way I'm going I will weigh less when we got to Disney World this Labor Day weekend than I did when I went on my honeymoon 6 years & 3 kids ago.  That is obviously a big milestone goal for me.  I slacked a little on my eating this weekend (OK, a lot) but other than that I have had a great 2 weeks.

I also had my first "race" for the season this past weekend.  I did The Color Run 5K in downtown Columbus with a team of 5 other women (about like 20,000 other people).  It. Was. Awesome!  I had so much fun!  I don't really consider it a race, more of a walk a K, get doused with color, stop for picture, laugh, repeat x5.  But it was a great first race to get my feet wet.  The 3.1 miles flew (I actually clocked the course at 3.5) & I wasn't even tired when we were done.  I feel great about where I am, on track for the marathon & all the other races I have coming up.  Next up I'm doing another 5K this weekend which will be more for speed, then a 1/4 marathon at the end of Aug.

Here's how I did the past 2 weeks:

Mon 7/9 - 2.0 miles on the treadmill, 15 minutes on stationary bike
Tues 7/10 - 2.0 miles on the treadmill, Dance Jam class, 2.0 miles around campus after work
Weds 7/11 - Zumba class
Thurs 7/12 - 15 minutes on stationary bike, Dance Jam class
Fri 7/13 - 2.0 miles on the treadmill, 20 minutes on stationary bike
Sat 7/14 - 5.74 miles on Blendon Woods trails (more hiking than walking)
Sun 7/15 - rest day

Mon 7/16 - 2.0 miles on the treadmill, 10 minutes on stationary bike
Tues 7/17 - 15 minutes on stationary bike, 1/2 of Dance Jam class (had to leave to pick up boys)
Weds 7/18 - 15 minutes on stationary bike, Zumba class, 20 minute WiiFit workout
Thurs 7/19 - Dance Jam class
Fri 7/20 - rest day
Sat 7/21 - 3.5 miles at The Color Run, 2.5 miles downtown
Sun 7/22 - 2 miles downtown pushing the boys at the Jazz & Rib Fest

Big Brother Daniel

Daniel is ALL about being a big brother right now!  He loves talking to "the baby," playing with "the baby," poking "the baby," etc.  Adrian & I think it's funny that he always calls Zak the baby, he kinda sounds like Elmo.  He's very cute when Zak cries, he'll go over & try to comfort him.  And now that Zak is more alert & sort of playing, Daniel is even more excited to be a big brother.  They was playing "restaurant" together today & it as adorable.  Daniel does still have his quirks, including some baby related.  For example, he won't go near the baby if he is not dressed.  And if Zak spits up, Daniel freaks out.  But all in all, it's a great relationship developing between the 2 brothers.  And most of you know we were very concerned with how Daniel would react to the baby, clearly we were dead wrong since he's embracing his role as both a big & little brother.

Wow, didn't realize how behind I had gotten with this.  Not only have I not been blogging about it, but my training hasn't been going real great either.  I have a million excuses, which I'm not going to bother going into.  I'm only going to say, it happened, it's over & I'm back on the horse today.  Here's the (very light) recap of what I've been doing:

Zachary - 5 months

Wow, we have had 3 kids for 5 months already.  They have flown by!  Zak seems to be learning new things every day right now.  On July 4th, he figured out how to roll over from his belly to his back & now he is rolling all over the place.  He is now desperate to learn how to crawl!  He is also working on holding his own bottle during feedings.  And today he tried rice cereal for the first time & I think he kinda liked it.

Riding with AJ

We are not surprised, but AJ is a ride warrior!!  He loves going on rides.  So far this summer we have taken him to Jungle Jack's Landing (at our local zoo) & Centerburg's "Heart of America" festival.  He loves every ride he goes on.  His favorite at the zoo was the frog hopper & at the festival it was the ferris wheel.  He was cracking me up on the ferris wheel because every time we passed the loading zone at the bottom, he thought we were going to stop, then would yell "They tricked us!" & burst out laughing.  He will have lots of opportunities the rest of the summer to ride rides including the Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival, the Ohio State Fair, Kings Island & finally Disney World in Sept!  I can't wait to go on all the rides with him.
